The Ceylon Tobacco Company states that the volume of cigarette sales increased by 5% in the quarter ended March 31, 2022 compared to the previous year.The company’s turnover and government tax revenue increased by 6% during the quarter, according to the financial report for the quarter ended March 31, 2022.Accordingly, the Ceylon Tobacco Company recorded a turnover of 37 billion rupees for the quarter ended March 31, 2022, of which 27.84 billion rupees was paid as government taxes and 2.58 billion rupees as income tax, while the company’s profit after tax was Rs. 4.18 billion.

A 12-year-old Grade 7 student of a popular school in Galle has stabbed four students of a nearby girls’ school with a ‘blade’, Galle Police said.Four students aged 09, 12 and 15 were injured in the incident. Former Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councilor Hasitha Samantha Muhadiram alias “sarpaya” has been acquitted and released on charges of double murder.The verdict was handed down when the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe.He was charged with shooting dead former Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councilor Ranjith Nandasena and his bodyguard in 1999 in Kalawana and setting them on fire in a vehicle.
