The Colombo High Court today upheld the prison sentence imposed on the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tilakaratne delivered the verdict, dismissing an appeal filed by Gnanasara Thero seeking his acquittal and release from the sentence, said Ada Derana reporter.The Police had filed a case against Gnanasara Thero under the Penal Code, accusing him of making a statement that disrupted communal harmony by allegedly insulting Islam.Following a trial, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court found Gnanasara Thero guilty of the charge and sentenced him accordingly.
Three individuals allegedly broke open a safe at a rural bank in Koralaima, Moragahahena, and fled with a stock of gold jewellery, according to the Police.The suspects are reported to have entered the bank premises at around 1:00 a.m. today (23).After allegedly restraining the security officers on duty, they gained access to the building through a bathroom window located at the rear of the premises.Police stated that the suspects subsequently forced open the bank’s safe, stole the gold jewellery stored inside, and fled the scene.No arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far, said police.Police have launched…
