The Sri Lankan Rupee has depreciated against the US Dollar, according to the daily exchange rate notice issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) today (22).Accordingly, the buying rate of a US Dollar was recorded at Rs. 329.30, while the selling rate was recorded at Rs. 339.06.According to the exchange rates issued by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka last Friday, the buying rate of a US Dollar was Rs. 328.00, while the selling rate was Rs. 338.70.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has stated that tourism earnings recorded in the country from January to May this year have declined compared to the corresponding period last year.According to a report released by the Central Bank, tourism revenue generated from January to May this year amounted to USD 1,360 million.However, during the same period in 2025, tourism earnings were recorded at USD 1,543.1 million. The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) says the maximum retail prices of 60 types of medicines will be revised. Chairman of the NMRA, Specialist Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, said that the decision was taken due to the increase in the value of the US dollar. He noted that the revision could result in price increases for some medicines. The gazette outlining the maximum retail prices of these 60 medicines was last revised in 2023.Meanwhile, Dr. Wijewickrama said inspections and raids are underway, and legal action will be taken against pharmacies selling medicines above the approved prices.
