Academic activities at the University of the Visual and Performing Arts in Colombo resumed today (13) after being temporarily closed due to the spread of dengue.
The university had been shut for nearly two weeks from July 2 as a precautionary measure in response to the rising number of dengue and viral fever cases.
Commenting on the reopening, Registrar Dr. Chani Imbulgoda urged students to take responsibility for maintaining a clean campus environment.
“We had to temporarily suspend academic activities due to the ongoing dengue outbreak. This is your university, and with the government’s support, we have restored the campus to a clean and safe condition and carried out dengue control measures. We ask all our students to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings, classrooms, and the campus clean by disposing of waste properly and supporting the university administration as academic activities resume,” she said.
Meanwhile, the National Dengue Control Unit reported that 68,071 dengue cases have been recorded across the country so far this year.
The unit also stated that 47 dengue-related deaths have been reported during the same period.
