A 12-year-old Grade 7 student of a popular school in Galle has stabbed four students of a nearby girls’ school with a ‘blade’, Galle Police said.
Four students aged 09, 12 and 15 were injured in the incident. Police also say that one of the students had to sew her hands.
Investigations have revealed that the teacher had asked the school to bring a tortoise and a ‘blade’ to the laboratory. Accordingly, the students have brought them. Meanwhile, when the school was leaving after the end of the lab activities, three students had talked together to cut the students with the ‘blade’.
Accordingly, the other two students had escaped when the school was over and this student alone had cut off the hands of four students with the ‘blade’ and run away.
Police said that the student was still 12 years old and was to be produced before the Multipurpose Committee of the Karapitiya Hospital for a report.
The Galle Police Children and Women’s Bureau is conducting further investigations.
