The debate on the second reading of the Interim Budget Bill 2022 started today.Parliament met today at 09.30 am under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.The second reading debate is scheduled to be held on September 2nd till 04.30 pm.President Ranil Wickramasinghe presented the 2022 Interim Budget Bill to Parliament yesterday (30) afternoon.

Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says that ongoing discussions with the International Monetary Fund are showing good progress.Accordingly, the Central Bank Governor stated that he hopes to be able to quickly reach an agreement at the staff level, which is the first step in the negotiations.The Governor of the Central Bank further stated that Sri Lanka will have a credible program to solve the current economic crisis when that agreement is reached and there will have to be an agreement for the reform of important and adverse policies to be implemented in the next three to four years.
