Central Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe says that a budget suitable for a country that is in need of debt and can build stability to recover from the crisis was presented to Parliament today.
Accordingly, the Governor of the Central Bank said that the President and the Treasury Secretary should be thanked for presenting a more visionary budget, even if it is not politically popular.
The Governor of the Central Bank stated this while attending a conference organized by the Colombo Naval Academy with the theme “Let’s know the truth about the state economy”(රාජ්ය ආර්ථිකය සම්බන්ධව සත්ය දැනගනිමු).
The Bank Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe further mentioned that the budget presented to the Parliament today has laid a basic foundation for the program implemented with the International Monetary Fund and although the reorganization of public enterprises, raising taxes, raising interest rates etc. are not popular measures, these must be done in order to move forward for the survival of the country.
