Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera has requested that a parliamentary committee be appointed for the procurement of fuel and coal.Speaking in parliament today (29), the minister said that the chairmanship of the appointment committee should be accepted by an opposition MP.Responding to this, the Chairman of the Government’s Finance Committee, Member of Parliament Dr. Harsha De Silva stated that there is no need for a special committee for that and the Finance Committee has powers in that regard.

In a raid near the State Engineering Corporation on the Negombo road in Peliyagoda, the Peliyagoda Police detained three people and seized cocaine, kush, and hash substances valued more than Rs. 300 million.
