Minister of State for Social Empowerment Anupa Pascual said in Parliament that a tax will be imposed on uncultivated lands in this year’s budget.
The state minister also said that he would suggest that the money earned from that tax be used to improve the farming activities of Samurdhi families.
The state minister Anupa Pascual mentioned that even Japan collects taxes from uncultivated land.
The state minister said that state as well as private lands have been left uncultivated due to various reasons and said that there are hundreds of acres of uncultivated land in the State Plantation Corporation and special attention should be paid to it.
