The judgment of the case related to the burning and destruction of the houses of United National Party members in 1997 based on the murder of Member of Parliament Nalanda Ellawala was announced yesterday at the Ratnapura High Court.
Accordingly, 7 persons, including the former Chairman of Ratnapura Regional Council Sudath Dissanayake and former Regional Council member Ranawaka Kaluarachchi, were sentenced to 5 1/2 years imprisonment with hard labour and two others were also sentenced to 7 1/2 years imprisonment. (Divaina)
