Fuel shortage is one of the major problems facing the people of our country these days. Unawatuna (SOS) has created the world’s first solar powered three-wheeler to solve the fuel problem. The founder is a German woman.
Ms. Ula Maschberg, who came to Sri Lanka about 27 years ago, chose Unawatuna to live in because of her love for the environment and natural beauty of the country. She has also set up an organization called ‘Save Our Sri Lanka’ with the help of local and foreign friends to create new creations. Commenting on her design, she said:
“According to statistics there are currently 1.3 million three wheelers in Sri Lanka. It is our endeavor to run them on solar energy and other natural renewables. Then the use of diesel and petrol will be eliminated one hundred percent. The government saves foreign exchange. Three wheeler owners save a lot of money. In addition, there is a great deal of environmental protection. We call this ‘Sola Malli’. We do all the other maintenance, including the production of solar panels”.

She added, “Now with the price of fuel, it is difficult for the average person to drive a car or even a three-wheeler. As fuel prices rise, so do three-wheeler fares. A good solution is our ‘Sola Tuk Tuk Malli’. It does not need fuel. ”
“This solar powered three wheeler has been presented to the President, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Industries and the Commanders of the three Armed Forces. This Sola Malli of ours still has no power to go on the road. Therefore, we are waiting for the government’s support for the Sola Malli National Program. We have applied for a patent for this solar powered three wheeler. But it has not been received yet. I hope it will be available soon ”
SOS The director of the institute Senaka Zoysa Siriwardena has also assisted her.
