Kusal Mendis scored 36 runs, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dasun Shanaka 34 runs while Dunith Wellalage scored 20 runs for Sri Lanka.
According to the Duckworth-Lewis method, Australia scored 216 runs in 43 overs to win the match.
In reply Australia could score only 189 runs for the loss of all wickets in 37 overs.
