According to Dr Kapila Kannangara, Provincial Director of Health Services in Sabaragamuwa Province, over 103 persons have been brought to hospital and have been diagnosed with Influenza Type A or B. The bulk of the patients are females.
He also stated that there are enough of medications available to treat people who have been hospitalised and are undergoing therapy in a hospital
Consultant Virologist at the Medical Research Institute’s Department of Virology revealed that samples were collected from patients who were admitted to the hospital, and the majority of the patients were infected with the Influenza A type virus
He further stated that healthy people have no underlying illnesses are not at increased risk.” Those with underlying health conditions, the elderly, pregnant women, and children under the age of two are at a higher risk. Those who are healthy will have a fever, cough, cold, and sore throat. “Influenza can progress to pneumonia and cause serious illness in vulnerable people”
