A group of Madel (seine net) fishermen has commenced a ‘Satyagraha’ campaign in front of the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo, citing the authorities’ failure to introduce a proper programme or make a decision regarding the continuation of their traditional fishing industry.
Secretary of the All Ceylon Madel Cooperative Association, R.A. Dilruk Fernando, stated that the fishermen would continue their protest at the location today and tomorrow, while expressing hope for a resolution to the issue by Wednesday.
