According to the Government Medical Officers’ Association, the current lack of medicines is due to weak coordination among the health sector institutions.
Accordingly, the central committee member of the association, Dr. Prasath Colombo, states that there is no proper coordination between the Sri Lanka State Pharmaceutical Corporation and the Drug Regulatory Authority.
As a result, it takes many months for one file of some types of medicines to go from one institution to another and due to the problems of the regulatory authority, the private sector is also unable to issue the relevant medicines.
