The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka so far this year has surpassed 71,000, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
The Dengue Control Unit said 71,235 dengue cases have been recorded as of yesterday (14), while 49 dengue-related deaths have also been reported.
A total of 1,284 dengue cases were reported yesterday alone, highlighting the continued spread of the disease.
The highest number of infections has been reported from the Western Province, where 37,490 cases have been recorded.
The Gampaha District accounts for the highest number of cases within the Western Province, with 14,736 infections reported, followed by the Colombo District with 14,229 cases.
Meanwhile, 15,856 dengue cases have been reported during the first 14 days of July.
June recorded the highest number of dengue cases so far this year, with 21,538 infections reported during the month, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
