At the prison entry checkpoint on Tuesday (16) evening, Welikada Prison Special Task Force (STF) officers detained a female inmate who was in possession of many medications, according to STF.
The STF claims that when the STF officers found the tablets in the suspect’s hands at the checkpoint, she had attempted to ingest them.
But the on-duty team and STF Sergeant (Female) Athulathmudali (1929) were able to stop the suspect from taking the drugs, leading to her arrest.
The suspect is an inmate of the Welikada Prison’s female wing. The suspect admitted to STF police after questioning that she was taking medication for a number of diseases but had brought the drugs inside accidentally. The prison medical officer has been tasked with determining if the tablets are narcotics or those that a doctor has prescribed for the suspect.
Prison guards have started an inquiry into the people who are arrested.
