Sheryl Sandberg has been CEO of Meta (formerly known as Facebook) since 2008 and has been the CEO and co – founder of Mark Zuckerberg’s Second Commandant, the company’s chief operating officer (COO). According to the latest reports, it is very close to changing. After nearly a decade of leadership in the company, Sandberg will step down as COO. However, it is reported that she is still serving as one of the the board of directors.
On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, she shared the news of her resignation from the role of COO on her official facebook handle. According to Sheryl, the reason for her departure was to focus more on philanthropy and non-profit activities such as the Sheryl Sandberg & Dave Goldberg Family Foundation. It helps women in the workplace and offers scholarships to people of different ethnic backgrounds, as well as helping people to escape personal tragedy.
Even so, Sandberg will still serve as one of Meta’s board of directors. The company expects Javier Olivan to take over as Chief Operating Officer in late 2022.
Sheryl Sandberg added that she had no intention of leaving Facebook / Meta and thanked Mark Zuckerberg and company for the work they had done during her 14 years of service.
It has been an honor and privilege of my life to be with Mark and to work with him during these 14 years. Mark is a truly visionary and caring leader. He used to say that we grew up together and now we have Fourteen years later, it’s time to write the next chapter in my life.I’m not entirely sure what the future holds – I learned that I will never be who I am. But I know it involves a greater focus on my foundation and sacrificial work, and it is more important to me than ever how crucial this moment is for women. Tom and I are getting married this summer and are also parents to our extended family of five children.Over the next few months, Mark and I will provide my direct reports and I will be leaving the company later this year. I still believe in our mission more than ever, and I’m very honored to continue to serve on Meta’s Board of Directors.

With the gradual departure of the Meta Facebook brand, it appears that Sandberg will step down from its leading role in the company to focus on its metaverse and VR / AR pursuits.
