Minister of Transport, Bandula Gunawardena says that structural changes will be done for the betterment of the transportation sector, with effect 15th June.
A meeting was held on Saturday (04) at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, between the transport minister and the heads of institutions of the Ministry of Transport and Highways to find solutions to the current public transport problems in the country.
Discussions were held on a number of actions that need to be taken in the short term to address the transportation problems faced by commuters in the face of the current fuel crisis and the rising cost of living in country.
Accordingly, several key decisions were taken to improve the transportation mediums for day to day activities as well as office train and bus services, transport services for school children as well as essential services (ambulances etc.) within a few days.
