The President of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Education Services Union, Wasantha Handapangoda, associated with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has been arrested for her involvement in the attacks on anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo by SLPP loyalists.Wasantha Handapangoda is among six suspects arrested over the unrest, which also includes the son of the Moratuwa Mayor, three employees of the Moratuwa Municipal Council, and a Colombo Municipal Councilor.The police said the suspects will be produced in court after recording statements about the unrest.

The Mattakuliya Police has launched an inquiry into an unidentified male body discovered on the shore of Crow Island on Saturday (28).The unknown body was discovered after the Mattakkuliya Police got a tip.According to the police, the deceased is believed to be roughly 38 years old and 5 feet 7 inches tall.The victim was also described as wearing orange pants and a black top.The man’s identification has yet to be determined, and his body has been taken to the Colombo National Hospital for a post-mortem investigation. The government has proposed certain tax reforms to be implemented over the immediate and near term to increase revenue.
