The President of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Education Services Union, Wasantha Handapangoda, associated with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), has been arrested for her involvement in the attacks on anti-government protesters near the Temple Trees and at the Galle Face Green in Colombo by SLPP loyalists.
Wasantha Handapangoda is among six suspects arrested over the unrest, which also includes the son of the Moratuwa Mayor, three employees of the Moratuwa Municipal Council, and a Colombo Municipal Councilor.
The police said the suspects will be produced in court after recording statements about the unrest.
