Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe had a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken this afternoon (13).The Prime Minister explained the current status of the discussions with the International Monetary Fund and expressed his willingness to work closely with Sri Lanka and the United States.The Prime Minister’s Media Unit stated that Anthony Blinken has agreed to support Sri Lanka and to promote investment in Sri Lanka after the conclusion of the International Monetary Fund talks.

Electricity Board Chairman M.M.C Ferdinando has resigned.Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in a post on his Twitter account that he had accepted the resignation letter.The Twitter message further states that Nalinda Illangakoon will be appointed as the new Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Dr. Harsha de Silva expressed his latest views on IMF borrowing. A meeting between Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong and US Ambassador Julie Chung took place today (13).The meeting took place at the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka.The Chinese Embassy further stated that China and the United States can work together to overcome the current difficulties in Sri Lanka.

The Met Department states that showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (13).Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Uva, Batticaloa and Ampara districts during the evening or night, the Department said.Thundershowers will develop at times in the North, North-Central and North-western provinces and in the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts.The Meteorological Department warns the public to take necessary measures to reduce the risk of temporary strong winds and thunderstorms.

The Railway Department has taken steps to operate several special trains from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura for the Poson Poya tomorrow (14).The Department of Railways stated that this special train service from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura will be operational accordingly.
