Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has said that deploying thousands of armed police and special task force soldiers to attack and drive away an unarmed collective peaceful protest demonstration of university students is a perfect example of democracy not working in a country.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says in a post on his Facebook account that on May 9, the then Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also used a mob to attack the peaceful non-violent struggle.
It is further stated in his note that the effect of such unnecessary repressive reactions at a time when international support is essential will further oppress the entire country.
