Mr KDN Ranjith Ashoka, Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government, has informed the Ministry Secretaries, Provincial Chief Secretaries and Heads of Departments in a circular that there will be no harm to the pension of the government officials who take unpaid leave (domestic and foreign).
Also, the circular states that the seniority that existed the day before they took leave without pay will not change after they return to duty. It also states that the Cabinet decided on the 10th not to apply the officers’ unpaid leave period to seniority.
The circular also states that the Ministry of Finance will issue instructions regarding applying those provisions to the officials of public enterprises operating on government funds. In the meantime, a series of agreements to be entered into by officers who take foreign unpaid leave with their superiors who approve the leave has also been published with this circular.
