The Department of Meteorology says there may be several periods of rain in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (23). The department stated that there is a possibility of rain or thundershowers at a few places in Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the evening or night.
The meteorological department has further informed that there is mainly rainless weather in the rest of the island and in the western slopes of the central hills, in the northern, north-central and north-western provinces, in Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts, the winds blowing from time to time can become strong winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
