The Department of Meteorology says that the intertropical convergence zone is affecting the island’s weather and due to its influence, the current rain situation in the island is expected to continue today (19). The department stated that there may be rain or thundershowers from time to time in many parts of the island.
Some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and Uva provinces may experience heavy rains of more than 100 mm. The Department of Meteorology urges that individuals take the required precautions to reduce the risks posed by thunderstorms’ transient high winds and lightning.
