The Department of Meteorology says that rain may occur from time to time in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Puttalam, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today (14). The department mentioned that some places in Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle and Matara districts may experience heavy rains of more than 50 mm.
Several times of rain may occur in Hambantota and Kurunegala districts, while in Uva province and Batticaloa and Ampara districts, there may be rain or thundershowers at a few places in the evening or at night. In the western slopes of the central hills, in the northern, north-central and north-western provinces, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts, the winds blowing from time to time may become gusty winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology exhorts individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
