The Department of Meteorology says that on today (11) there may be occasional rain in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. The department stated that some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Puttalam, Galle and Matara districts may experience heavy rains of about 50 mm.
A few rains may occur in Mannar, Vavuniya, Anuradhapura and Hambantota districts, while in Uva province, Batticaloa and Ampara districts, there may be rain or thundershowers in a few places during the evening or at night. In the western slopes of the central hills, in the northern, north-central and north-western provinces, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts, the winds blowing from time to time may become gusty winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology urges that individuals take the required precautions to reduce the risks posed by thunderstorms’ transient high winds and lightning.
