The Department of Meteorology says that there may be occasional rain or thundershowers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, South and North-Western provinces and Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts today (01). Heavy rains of more than 50 mm can also be expected in some areas in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Puttalam districts.
Anuradhapura district may experience a few spells of rain and other areas may experience rain or thundershowers at a few places in the evening or at night. Winds blowing from time to time in North, North-Central and North-West provinces, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts can become strong winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology requests the people to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
