Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said in Parliament today that due to the release of water from Samanalaweva Reservoir to Udawalawa Reservoir, electricity generation in Samanala Lake Reservoir will be completely stopped by August 16.
He also warned that there will be a 3-hour power cut in some districts that cannot purchase alternative electricity to get rid of this situation. Accordingly, there will definitely be a three-hour power cut in Matara district, Galle, Ratnapura and Hambantota districts in full or in part, he said.
He also said that if the purchase of electricity is not made, there should be a power cut for one hour during the day and two hours during the night.
