The leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe will be crucial in bringing stability and ensuring an environment that is suitable to guiding Sri Lanka out of the fundamental issues the country is facing, according to the Secretary General, who sent a special message of congratulations to the President on August 3.

The President’s determination to bring all political parties together in order to create a national plan to solve these issues was recognized by the UN Secretary General. The Secretary General also emphasized the significance of fostering communication among all parties, including public consultation, as well as respect for the rule of law and basic human rights standards.

Sri Lanka’s initiatives to increase women’s political involvement were praised by Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who also urged the President to take the initiative and quicken the pace of change. The UN emphasized that it is prepared to assist the Government and people of Sri Lanka in addressing both their short-term and long-term needs. It also expressed excitement about continuing its cooperation with Sri Lanka to advance peacekeeping, sustainable development, and human rights for all Sri Lankans.
