The Director General of the National Transport Commission, Dr Thilan Miranda, said yesterday (12) that the Inter-Provincial Bus Fixed Stop Pilot Project will start from the 15th of this month and the project will be implemented first on the Colombo to Galle route.

Mr Miranda said that these projects are being implemented as a solution to the constant conflicts between long-distance service buses and short-distance buses regarding the boarding of passengers on the bus.

Director (Planning) of the National Transport Commission Mrs Aloka Karunaratne said that 37 places from Colombo to Ginthota have been identified as inter-provincial bus stops and new signs have been installed on both sides of the road at those places. She also says that provincial buses cannot be stopped.

Mrs Karunaratne said that inter-provincial buses can stop only at the places with the yellow bus logo and short-journey service buses can also stop the bus at those stops. It is also stated that the buses that do not follow the same will be dealt with according to the general law and the recommendations of the National Transport Commission. (Lankadeepa)
