American President Joe Biden says that he is impatiently waiting to see Sweden become a member of NATO. The American President said this when he met and discussed with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristerson, who came to the White House.
Sweden is a European country. Just like Sweden, Finland has also applied for NATO membership. Sweden and Finland have requested the membership of the ‘NATO’ organization, fearing Russia’s military action against Ukraine.
‘NATO’ is a military alliance formed by the United States and European countries with the aim of eliminating threats from Russia. Unlike Finland, Sweden is having trouble getting NATO membership. Sweden needs Turkey’s approval to join NATO. Turkey is also a member of NATO.
Turkey is the only NATO member with good relations with Russia. Sweden shelters many opposition activists against the Turkish government. This is why Turkey is protesting against Sweden. A NATO summit will be held in Lithuania next week. Turkey’s decision on Sweden will be announced there.
