Acting President Ranil Wickramasinghe has been elected as the 8th President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
after successfully failing 2 presdential elections continuously and failing to get elected as a Parlament member Ranil was able to attend the parliament from the national list.
Soon after the departure of the former PM Mahinda rajapaksha, Ranil was appointed as the PM of Sri Lanka.
As per the Constitution of Sri Lanka, a secret ballot was held in Parliament today to elect a new President to complete the remaining tenure of the former President.
223 Members of Parliament had voted, while 2 MPs had abstained. 219 votes were valid and 4 votes were identified as invalid.
