Four Malabe Police constables were detained by Kottawa Police in connection with the theft of an Apple phone and a gold chain from a guy at Kottawa Vidyalaya Junction. A police Sergeant and three constables are reportedly among the suspect police personnel.
The three-wheeler utilized in the heist as well as the stolen gold chain and cellphone were found by the police.
According to the police, on August 20, the victim, Walasmulla, of Weerakatiya, came to his sister’s home in Kottawa Vidyala junction. As he stood on the road in front of his sister’s home, four suspects riding a three-wheeler approached him and took his gold chain and cellphone before fleeing.
The police officers who were detained and are currently being questioned claim that they attempted to interview the young man who had acted suspiciously while they were on a raid in civilian clothes.
They said that the man had fought with the cops and that as a result of this altercation, his gold chain had broken and he had fled without his phone.
The cops will now be brought before the courts after being detained awaiting an investigation. Police discovered that the three-wheeler the accused arrived in belonged to a Malabe Police policeman.
Before the Homagama Court, the suspects who had been detained were presented.
