Gemunu Wijerathne, chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, stated yesterday that it is very hard to lower bus prices in compared to the recent auto diesel price decrease of Rs. 10 per liter.
Despite the fact that diesel prices have reduced since Monday, it would be impractical to offer a discount to the public since it would be very difficult to determine a fare percentage for the present bus rates.
From Monday night at 10 p.m., the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation decreased the cost of a litre of Lanka white diesel by Rs (August 1).
If diesel costs drop again in the future, it is acceptable to make a judgment about bus rates, he added.
If the next price adjustment occurs at a larger proportion, he continued, “We can consider lowering the bus tickets.”
