Lakshman Dissanayake, the organizer of the Kegalle SJB, was detained by police yesterday in relation to a woman’s death. The woman’s body was discovered yesterday (1) at around 8:25 am in the upstairs room of the party office of Samagi Jana Balawegaya Kegalle district organizer Lakshman Dissanayake at Kalugalla Mawatha in the town of Kegalle.
Sakunthala Weerasinghe (38), a native of Habudugala in Kegalle, has been named as the deceased. Also discovered next to the body was a handgun. Police in Kegalle are looking into other possibilities.
The dead employee had reportedly worked at this party office for a number of years, according to the police. According to the police, she used to walk every day from her house to the office.
Yesterday, the magisterial probe into the deceased was carried out by Kegalle Magistrate Wasana Nawaratne. The Magistrate instructed the police to deliver the body to the families after performing a post-mortem. Yesterday evening, the suspect was scheduled to appear in court.
