If our kidneys fail due to some reason, the balance of the body will be seriously affected. And the patient also has various difficulties. In such a case, doctors are able to perform the work done by the kidneys to some extent with the help of a machine. It is called hemodialysis. This machine filters the blood similar to our kidney function. The important and functional unit here is the ‘dialyzer’ which is made up of many tiny capillaries.
Functionality
Blood circulating in the patient is drawn through the tube into the machine. In some cases, a tube is temporarily used in a large vein to get blood out of the patient. The veins in the neck or thighs are used as large veins. These tubes are attached to the chest when needed to maintain a period.
The Vistula created by grafting an artery and vein is often required to perform long-term blood filtration. In most cases, this is done on the patient’s wrist or elbow. After numbing the associated skin, the Vistula is created through a small surgery.
Once the patient and the machine are connected by any of the above methods, the machine starts removing unwanted waste from the blood. Excess water in the body can also be removed through this machine.
This treatment should be done for at least 12 hours a week to maintain the balance of the body. Accordingly, the treatment is given 03 times a week for 04 hours at a time.
Although dialysis provides relief to the patient without much discomfort, the machine does not perform the entire role that the kidneys constantly perform.
In particular, the machine does not support the kidneys in maintaining hormonal function and balance in the skeletal system. Because of this, there are risks affecting patients who undergo dialysis for a long time. They are more likely to suffer from conditions like heart attack, paralysis etc. Also, germs can enter the body while receiving the treatment through tubes temporarily.
