Hambantota International Port, CEO of Hambantota International Port Group, Johnson Liu, has started the container transhipment service operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company.
Accordingly, the container ship MV ‘MSC Ingrid’ arrived at Hambantota port for the first time on April 9 with a load of re-export containers.
Also, the second container ship ‘MSC Sky11’ belonging to the Mediterranean Shipping Company is scheduled to arrive at the Hambantota port on the 16th and nearly 500 containers will be reloaded there, Hambantota International Port Group says.
The handling of containers is the last step of the port mechanism and with the commencement of these services, Hambantota International Port will emerge as a giant, says its Chief Operating Officer Tissa Wickramasinghe.
They also say that with the start of container services, being able to directly import raw materials required for production and export services will encourage investors in the Hambantota International Port-related industrial zone.
