The Election Commission has ordered the immediate removal of all stickers promoting presidential candidates from vehicles, stating that it is an offense under Section 74 of the Presidential Elections Act No. 15 of 1981.

The commission noted that complaints have been received regarding the display of signs, stickers with photos, flags, and other promotional materials for presidential candidates and parties on private vehicles, including private buses and three-wheelers.

The Election Commission has instructed the police to conduct emergency inspections across all police jurisdictions to remove these stickers.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has reported that a total of 3,041 complaints have been received so far in relation to the presidential election. Of these, 2,947 complaints are related to violations of election laws, and 25 complaints pertain to acts of violence.

Additionally, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced that all schools across the island will remain closed on September 20 (Friday) due to the 2024 Presidential Election. The Ministry stated that schools used as vote counting centers have been instructed to close as necessary.
