Gemunu Wijeratne, President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA), said that with the increase in VAT in January, bus fares will have to be increased.
He also said that from the month of 2024 January, an ordinary bus costs about 1 crore fifty-seven lakhs for the import of buses and it is not possible to buy a bus at that price and transport the common people, the price of a bus spare parts, the price of lubricating oil, the price of fuel, and service charges will all increase.
Mr. Wijeratne further mentioned that he hopes to discuss this with the President and Finance Ministry officials soon.
