The Election Commission has submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court requesting that appropriate orders be issued to the government institutions including the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to facilitate the holding of the local government polls.

Accordingly, the Election Commissioner-General stated in the affidavit that he sent a letter to the Secretary of the Ministry of Energy on the 9th of January and requested to increase the amount of fuel allocated to the vehicles and generators used for the elections.

However, it has been shown in the relevant affidavit that there was no good response.

In view of the current situation, it has become very difficult to continue the activities related to the local government polls, so the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, the Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy, the Ceylon Electricity Board, the Inspector General of Police, the Petroleum Statutory Corporation are requested to issue necessary and appropriate orders to provide the necessary facilities. The commission has requested the Supreme Court through its affidavit.
