Minister of Plantations and Industries Dr Ramesh Pathirana says that the second coconut triangle in the country will be started in the Northern Province with the districts of Jaffna, Mannar and Mullaitivu as the centre in conjunction with World Coconut Day on September 2nd.
Attending the news conference held yesterday (02) at the President’s Media Center regarding the review of the Ministry of Plantation Industry’s “yearly progress”, he further stated that it is planned to export 290 million kilograms of tea this year.
The minister further mentioned that an income of 900 million dollars from rubber-related exports and 700 million dollars from coconut-related exports is expected this year. Also, the ministry will take steps to promote cinnamon cultivation and re-expand coffee cultivation in Sri Lanka.
