According to a report issued by the National Audit Office, it is questionable that the Government of Sri Lanka spent more than twenty-two million rupees as foreign loans for the construction of a separate railway line from Anuradhapura to Mihintale.
According to the report, the 1.5 km distance from Anuradhapura to Mihintalea junction can be run by train on the main road to Mihintale, but it is a problem to spend this amount of money to run a train for three or four days a year.
According to the audit office, the train runs from Anuradhapura to Mihintale only for three or four days a year during Poson and the train was not run after 2019.
The audit report also shows that the railway department has not given answers in this regard.
