World AIDS Day 2023 is today (December 01). This year’s AIDS Day theme is ‘Let communities lead’’.
In 1981, the first AIDS patient was diagnosed in a hospital in Los Angeles, and since then, more than 40 million people have died from AIDS-related illnesses.
Dr Nishan Gunaratne of the AIDS and STD Unit states that 485 HIV-infected people have been diagnosed in Sri Lanka only in the first 10 months of this year, and the tests to identify the infected have been further expanded.
