A memorandum of understanding was signed with Korea to establish a centre for training workers for shipbuilding factories in Korea at the Sri Jinarathana Educational Institute affiliated with Hunupitiya Gangarama Temple.

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau signed the MoU today under the chairmanship of the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara between the Sri Jinaratana Educational Institute affiliated with the Gangarama Temple and Korea Coollife Institutes. On behalf of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, Mr Hilmi Aziz, its Chairman, Mr Prasad Jayaweera, the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Sri Jinarathana Educational Institute, Mr John Yung Lim, the CEO of Korean Coollife, signed this memorandum of understanding.

According to this memorandum of understanding, Korean workers will be trained for jobs in the shipbuilding industry. Workers are to be trained for welding jobs in the ship construction industry in the initial phase and ship painting training and electrical training are to be provided in the second phase.

Korean language training is also scheduled to be given to all the trainers who are being trained for jobs in the ship construction industry.

The Sri Jinaratana Educational Institute affiliated with the Gangarama Temple provides the necessary facilities for training and the Korean Cluelife Institute conducts the training. The Korean trainers are also going to be coordinated by the institute.

All the trainers who receive this training are to be directed to the Korean ship construction industry for the necessary coordination activities and to provide the necessary support for Sri Lanka to obtain the employment quotas for providing employment to Sri Lankan workers. The Foreign Employment Bureau will conduct monitoring activities to ensure the quality of the relevant training activities.

Mr Priyantha Senanayake, General Manager of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, Hinkumbure Kondagna Thero, a resident of Gangarama Vihara, attended the signing of the MoU. (Direct quote: Lankadeepa)
