The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has received a request from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to lower electricity rates by 3%. The plan is supported by various elements, including the falling cost of fuel and raw materials and the falling demand for power.
In the upcoming weeks, the PUCSL is anticipated to study the proposal and decide whether to accept it. If the plan goes through, Sri Lanka’s costs for electricity will be decreased for the first time since 2015.
The drop in electricity prices would relieve consumers in Sri Lanka, who have been struggling with increased living expenses.
