Dr. Sudath Dharmaratne, the Health Ministry’s deputy director general for laboratory services, reported yesterday (02), “The Medical Supply Division has over 500,000 RAT kits to diagnose persons infected with Covid-19.”
According to him, the government has the requisite resources for a Rapid Antigen Test to be performed in a hospital’s outpatient department on a person who is believed to be carrying the Covid-19 virus.
In as little as 30 minutes, the fast antigen test’s findings can be known.
He said that there are more than 26 established laboratories around the nation that provide PCR testing to identify Covid and Antigen Tests facilities.
The Health Department notes that the new Covid-19 BA5 virus strain is fast spreading in various parts of the country and that the virus may be stopped from spreading by identifying the victims and protecting them.
The Epidemiology Department reports that 108 additional cases of Covid-19 were identified on Monday (01), bringing the total number of cases identified to 665,847.
The agency reports that 1,134 sick persons are undergoing treatment in hospitals and residences, while 648,154 of the total affected people have recovered.
A total of 16,559 Covid virus victims have passed away.
