The Department of Meteorology says that the Intertropical Convergence Zone is affecting the island’s weather and due to its influence, an increase in the current rain condition of the island is expected today (17).
The department stated that rain or thundershowers may occur in many parts of the island after 2:00 p.m.
Some places in Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces may receive heavy rains of more than 100 mm, while Western, Southern and Eastern Provinces and Mannar and Jaffna districts may also experience rain in the coastal areas in the morning.
The Department of Meteorology requests the people to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
