The Department of Meteorology says that rain or thundershowers may occur from time to time in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western and Southern provinces today (12). They mention that heavy rains of more than 100 mm may occur in some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.

The northern and north-central provinces and Trincomalee districts are likely to experience a few spells of rain, while the Uva and Eastern provinces may experience scattered showers or thunderstorms, especially in the evening or at night. It further states that the winds blowing from time to time in the western and southern coastal areas can become strong winds between 40 and 45 kilometres per hour.

The Department of Meteorology urges individuals to take the required precautions to reduce the risks brought on by storm-related lightning and transient high winds.
